The Old House
Lily went to her grandma’s old house. She stayed there for three long nights. Lily did not like the old house. It made strange sounds in the dark night. Her room was small, cold, and very quiet. There was an old door next to her bed. “Sleep well, my dear Lily,” said grandma. Then grandma went to her own room. Lily lay in bed and closed her eyes. Soon the house was silent and very dark.

The Sound at Night
Then Lily heard a strange, soft sound. Tap. Tap. Tap. It came from the old, dark door. Lily opened her eyes and looked around. The room was cold, and her heart was fast. She hid under the blanket and did not move. The sound stopped, and then Lily slept. The next night, the sound came again. Tap. Tap. Tap. Lily saw a black shadow near the door. She was very scared, but she was so tired. She closed her eyes and fell asleep again.

The Girl in White
On the third night, Lily was brave. The sound came again. Tap. Tap. Tap. Lily got out of her cold, dark bed. She walked slowly to the old wooden door. Her hands were shaking, but she opened it. A small girl stood behind the door.

The girl wore an old, white dress. Her face was pale and very quiet. Her eyes were dark, and she looked sad. Lily could not move or speak at all. The girl looked at Lily and smiled softly. “Will you play with me?” she said. Then the small girl was gone. The door was empty and dark again.
In the morning, Lily ran to her grandma. She told her about the girl in white. Grandma showed her a very old photo. A small girl in a white dress smiled in it. “She lived here long, long ago,” said grandma. Lily looked at the cold, dark door. And that night, the tapping came again.
