Part One: The Missing Cat
It is Saturday morning. Lina wakes up and looks at her bed. Her cat is not there.
“Mishmish!” she calls. “Where are you?”
Lina runs to the kitchen. She looks for her cat. No cat. She runs to the living room. She looks under the sofa. No cat. She runs to the garden too. She looks behind every tree. Still, she cannot find him.
“Mishmish is lost,” Lina says quietly. She feels afraid. She loves her cat very much, and now she cannot find him anywhere.
Lina’s mother comes into the room. “What’s wrong?” she asks.
“I can’t find Mishmish,” Lina says. “He is lost, and I am afraid something happened to him.”
“Don’t worry,” her mother says. “We will find him. Mr. Ahmad next door can help us look.”
Lina wipes her eyes. “OK. Let’s go and find him now.”
Part Two: Lina Finds Mishmish
Lina and her mother walk to Mr. Ahmad’s house. They knock on the door.
“Good morning,” says Mr. Ahmad. “How can I help you?”
“Our cat is lost,” Lina says. “His name is Mishmish. Can you help us find him?”
“Of course,” says Mr. Ahmad. “I saw an orange cat near the trees this morning.”
Lina’s eyes open wide. “Orange? That’s Mishmish! Let’s go and look there now!”
They all run to the trees. Lina looks up and sees something orange.
“Mishmish!” she shouts. “Come down, please!”
The cat looks down at Lina. Slowly, he climbs down the tree. Lina is not afraid anymore. She is happy.
Lina picks up her cat and holds him close. “I was so afraid,” she says. “I looked for you everywhere, and now I finally find you.”
“He’s safe now,” says Mr. Ahmad with a smile.
Lina is very happy. She thanks Mr. Ahmad, and she and her mother walk home with Mishmish.
That night, Mishmish sleeps on Lina’s bed again. Lina smiles. She is happy. Her cat is not lost anymore. He is home.
