The Old Paintbrush

A2Fantasy
The Old Paintbrush

Sam found a small, old paintbrush in the attic. It looked simple, and it was very, very old. He did not know that the brush was magic. When Sam painted a red apple, it became real. On that rainy day, his whole life changed.

The Old Attic

Sam lived in a small town with his family. They did not have much money, but they were happy. Sam’s father worked hard, and his mother made warm bread. One rainy day, Sam had nothing fun to do. “Please go and clean the old attic,” his mother said. Sam climbed the wooden stairs up to the dusty attic. The attic was dark, cold, and full of old boxes. Sam opened a box and looked carefully inside it. He found some old paper and a small paintbrush. The brush was brown, thin, and very, very old. Sam liked the brush, so he put it in his pocket. He did not know that the brush was magic.

The Magic Brush

That night, Sam sat down at his small wooden table. He wanted to draw a nice picture on the paper. Slowly, he painted a big red apple with the brush. Then something very strange happened in his quiet room. The apple came out of the paper and became real. It fell on the table and made a soft sound. Sam picked up the apple and looked at it closely. It was fresh, sweet, and completely real in his hand. Sam was so surprised that he could not speak. He quickly painted a warm loaf of fresh bread. The bread became real too, and it smelled wonderful. Sam ran downstairs to his family with the food. His family could not believe their own tired eyes.

A Kind Helper

The next day, Sam painted many good things for everyone. He painted warm coats and boots for the cold winter. He painted a small brown dog for his little sister. The dog was soft and friendly, and it loved them. Now the family was never hungry or cold again. Sam felt proud, but he stayed humble and very kind. He did not keep the magic only for himself. He painted food and blankets for his poor neighbors. He painted new toys for all the happy children. Soon, everyone in the town knew about Sam’s brush. People smiled at him and thanked him every single day.

A Small Temptation

One night, Sam looked at his old and simple house. He thought about painting a big house made of gold. He could paint gold coins and become very, very rich. Sam held the brush and looked at the empty paper. But then he remembered his kind and gentle mother. “Money is not everything,” his mother always liked to say. Sam smiled and put the magic brush down again. He did not want gold or a big golden house. He only wanted his family and neighbors to be safe. So he painted a warm dinner for everyone instead.

One Big Mistake

But a rich, greedy man also heard about the brush. He wanted the magic brush to make gold for himself. One evening, he came to Sam’s house with two guards. “Give me that magic brush right now,” the man said. Sam said no, because the brush was not for greed. The angry man took Sam away from his family. He locked Sam inside a cold and dark stone room. “Paint gold for me, or you will stay here forever.” Sam was very scared, but he made a clever plan. He held the brush and started to paint on the wall. He did not paint any gold for the greedy man. Instead, he painted a big, strong door on the grey wall.

Sam Learns

The painted door became real and slowly opened wide. The door led straight into the quiet, empty street. Sam ran through the door and escaped into the night. He did not look back at the dark, cold house. His heart beat fast, but he felt brave and free. He ran home safe to his worried and happy family. The greedy man looked everywhere, but he never found Sam. After that scary day, Sam was more careful than before. He learned that magic can bring danger as well as joy. He never painted gold or expensive things for anyone again. He only painted what people truly and really needed. He painted food, warm homes, and clothes for poor families. His small town became a kinder and happier place. And Sam kept the old magic brush safe forever.
