Leo plans a fun picnic in the park. He packs sandwiches and juice. But the sky has a different plan. Can Leo still have a happy day?
Leo wakes up early on Saturday. Today is picnic day! He packs sandwiches, apples, and juice into a basket. His mom helps him fold a soft blue blanket too.
“I can’t wait to eat lunch in the park,” Leo says. “The grass, the trees, the birds, everything!”
But when Leo looks out the window, the sky is grey. Big rain clouds cover the sun.
Drip, drip, drip. Rain falls softly on the window.

Leo’s face falls. “No! Not today!” he says sadly. “I wanted a picnic so much.”
Mom looks at the basket, then at Leo’s sad face. She smiles a big smile.
“We can still have a picnic,” she says. “Just a different kind.”
“How?” Leo asks. “We can’t go to the park in the rain.”
“We don’t need the park,” Mom says. “We can have a picnic right here at home.”
Mom spreads the soft blue blanket on the living room floor. She puts the basket in the middle. She turns off the big lights and turns on some small string lights instead. The room glows soft and warm.
“Wow!” Leo says, his sad face turning happy. “It looks like a secret picnic cave!”
Leo runs to get his teddy bear. “He wants to come to the picnic too,” Leo says, placing the bear carefully on the blanket.
They sit down together. They eat their sandwiches and apples. They drink their juice slowly. Outside, the rain taps gently on the window, but inside, it feels warm and cozy.

“This is even better than the park,” Leo says, smiling.
“Why is that?” Mom asks.
“Because we get to listen to the rain too,” Leo says. “It’s like music for our picnic.”
After lunch, they play a card game together on the blanket. Leo wins two times, and Mom wins once. They laugh a lot. Leo forgets all about being sad.
Before bed, Leo looks out the window one more time. The rain is still falling softly, quiet and steady.
“Can we have another rainy picnic next time it rains?” he asks.
Mom laughs and hugs him. “Of course we can,” she says. “Rainy days can be fun days too.”
Leo smiles and closes his curtains. He falls asleep thinking about his cozy indoor picnic, and he isn’t sad about the rain anymore.
