Sami is playing in the garden when he sees something strange. A tiny door, no bigger than his hand, sits at the bottom of the old stone wall. Sami has never noticed it before. He decides to knock.
Sami was playing near the old stone wall at the back of his garden when he saw it: a tiny wooden door, painted bright green, no bigger than his hand.
“That’s new,” Sami said, kneeling down for a closer look.
He knocked gently on the tiny door, three small taps with one finger.
The door creaked open slowly. A tiny creature stepped out, no taller than Sami’s thumb, with pointy ears and a friendly smile.
“Hello!” the tiny creature said. “My name is Pebble. Not many children find my door.”
“Wow,” Sami said, leaning in closer. “Are you magic?”
“A little,” Pebble said, laughing. “I help with small things. Lost buttons. Missing socks. That sort of thing.”
Sami’s eyes lit up. “I lost my favorite toy car yesterday! I looked everywhere!”
“Show me where you looked last,” Pebble said, hopping onto Sami’s open palm.
Sami carried Pebble carefully to the porch, where he’d last remembered playing with his car. Pebble hopped down and sniffed around the wooden boards curiously.
“Aha!” Pebble said, pointing a tiny finger toward a small gap between two boards. “Right there.”
Sami knelt down and reached carefully into the gap. His fingers found something small and hard. He pulled out his little red toy car, dusty but perfectly fine.
“You found it!” Sami said happily, hugging the tiny car to his chest. “Thank you so much, Pebble!”
“That’s what I do,” Pebble said proudly. “Small magic for small problems.”
“Will I see you again?” Sami asked.
“Maybe,” Pebble said, already hopping back toward the tiny green door. “Keep an eye on that wall. You never know when a tiny door might appear again.”
Pebble stepped through the little door and closed it gently behind him. Sami stayed and looked at the wall for a long moment, smiling, his toy car safe in his hand.
That night, Sami told his whole family about Pebble. Nobody quite believed him. But every day after that, Sami checked the wall carefully, just in case.
